Freedom. Something Beautiful.

Freedom what makes life “perfect”. Sometimes, freedom only comes when we make the choice to no longer live in the past. Faith tells me to let the past year die away, to no longer live in the shadows of what was, but rather live for today and what is…

When we do that, that is when something beautiful happens, something I call freedom.

Monkey Business! (Monkey Cupcake Tutorial)

A few weeks ago it was bazaar season in my  parish. Each year we are asked to bring some item to the bazaar to help defer expenses. This year was MY year. When I say MY year, I am referring to the fact that I was asked to bring cake walk cakes or cupcakes.

SCORE!!    My insides went….. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! :)

After the initial excitement, reality ALWAYS has to set in. “You work 40 hours, it is bazaar weekend, so the grocery store (my occupation) will be busy, you will have no time, energy, creativity left!”  I quickly pushed it aside and spent “some” time on Pinterest.

The last time I was asked to bring cakes I opted for really sweet, cute, adorable owls.

This year, well this year I went for  monkeys!

Isn’t that little monkey so cute!?!

The tutorial for these cute little guys came from a cute website by the name of  Skip to My Lou. (click on the link to see her tutorial)

I realize that I am missing and have a few extras in my “cast”. So ignore the white frosting gel and pretend that is a box of Runts. :) You know that candy that is shaped like different fruits!? Oh and add a box or two of cake mix. ;) (remember I had NO time, so boxed cake to the rescue!)

Cupcakes. Blah. Boring. Cupcakes.

Oh! But they can be transformed into… something well…. non- boring!

My monkeys look slightly different.

First Change: I ended up using all orgianl sized vanilla wafers. My local grocery store does not have the mini wafers, and because I am ALL about shopping local and supporting the businesses in small town America. I decided against the mini wafers. Personally, I believe they look just as cute.

Second Change: I nixed the idea of decorating all of the cupcakes to look like monkeys. So I had a brilliant idea half way through decorating. Brilliant, because I thought of the idea, of course. ;)  The addition of candy banana Runts.

Are not the banana Runts a nice addition?!

Over all I believe the kiddos who brought these monkeys home from the bazaar where…. happy.

Never forget, it is the simplicity of life that brings the happiness we are all dreaming for.

PS. Forgive me for the poor quality of my pictures quickly shot them with my phone.

Today is 9/12 the day after the attacks that would forever change history. Whether we will admit it or not, it did change all of our lives. Years ago, the country turned to God, prayer and faith. It was something beautiful.

Are we still Praying?      Are we still allowing God to be #1?

We shall never forget…      or    …. have we forgotten?

Embrace everything that is beautifully simple, because we never know when that could stop existing.

An Apple a Day …

… keeps the doctor away.

Often, we miss the blessings right under our nose. I am guilty of this just as much as anyone else. My parents have three apple trees and they are FILLED with apples.  My cup runneth over.  … with apples. They are filled on the trees and the ground has plenty wind falls to fill every canning jar in the tri-state areas. (okay the last one might be stretching it)

This is something not to be cursed, hated, or ignored, but rather something to praise, thank, and see the blessing.

Tonight I realized, that two ice cream buckets of chopped apples, do not equal 7 quarts of apple juice.

Did I get upset?     .… Slightly.

Did I grumble?     .… Yes.

Was I disgusted?    …. Most diffidently.

Is there good in this experience?

The blessing. The blessing of something so good! Apples. Nourishment. Fruit.

An apple a day does keep the doctor away! :)

Simplicity. Happiness. The “popping” noise of jars just taken out of the canner. True, simple happiness.

Today, I realized it has been months since I made a post to my blog. I had an “ah-ha” moment. Social media is great and all, but honestly I love the quiet, unassuming role of blogging.  I am able to talk, ramble, vent, and put all the thoughts that go through my mind on “paper” and having no clue who my audience is.

You. My audience are strangers. And that is what I love. I have no one to try and impress, because well honestly, I will never meet you. Our paths will probably never cross. Happiness. (Wonder how many followers I have. hmmm)

Something about “anonymous” audiences. We (or well I) become not so …. lets impress the world… lets make myself look like super woman. Rather, it becomes something beautiful and beautifully flawed.

So I hope in the days, weeks, months, years ahead, my blogging world will become more frequent. And no so hit and miss or shall I say…. Procrastination central. :)

As always.   God blesses us not in booming and loud ways, but rather he blesses us in the silence, the simple things, those are the days and times that  bring us the most Joy.

“Don’t be afraid to be saints. Follow Jesus Christ who is the source of freedom and light. Be open to the Lord so that He may lighten all your ways.”

Saint John Paul II
